I’m Ben Rekemeyer, a photographer based in Rensselaer, NY, who spends a lot of time working in Salem, MA, especially once spooky season hits and the costumes come out.

I’m a little too obsessed with Halloween and drawn to horror, oddities, live performance, and the things that make people different. What started as a hobby has grown into creative portraits, live events, professional wrestling, and concert photography. Along the way, I’ve had the chance to photograph Reby Hardy and Matt Rife, along with artists including Muse, Luke Bryan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pitbull, Lil Jon, and Hollywood Undead.

One day I might be photographing from a concert pit or ringside, and the next shoot might be in the woods, at a street fair, in an old church, or right in the middle of Salem in October. I like both sides of it. I like catching the exact second something happens, and I also like taking a strange idea and figuring out how to turn it into a photograph.

Photography is not my full-time job. I also have a career in higher education, and most of the rest of my time goes to my wife and two kids. I take the work seriously, but I do it because I love it and want to keep it that way. When I take on a shoot, I care about giving it the time and attention it deserves.
